What have we been learning?

We had our first class meeting this week!  At the beginning of each class meeting we do a fun greeting.  This time, everyone had to shake each others hands and introduce themselves to the person sitting next to them.

Then we read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.  Every time someone said something unkind to Chrysanthemum, we crinkled the big red heart.

At the end of the book we tried to smooth out the heart and we added kind words (with band-aids) to try to fix the heart and make Chrysanthemum better.  We learned that even if we apologize, unkind words still hurt so we need to think before we speak.

In math, we explored our math tubs and tool-kits.

We reviewed shapes by finding partners with the same shape and telling something about ourselves to the whole class.
Then we found objects in the classroom to make number collections for the numbers 1-10.

In Second Step, our social skills program, students learned about listening rules.  Eyes watching, ears listening, voice quiet, and body still.

Students wrote about and drew a picture about their favorite listening rules.

We celebrated Faith's birthday!!!

We used voting eggs to learn about nouns.

And...we went to music class with Mrs. Kisner!

Whew!  We had a busy week!!!!!  But it was lots of fun!!!!!!
